CRYSALYS,NEW LINE UP AND A NEW ERA FOR THE ITALIAN METAL BAND!

The Italian metal band Crysalys has come back..! The band published the following statement:

"TO ALL OUR FRIENDS AND FANS: WELCOME TO THE NEW CRYSALYS MYSPACE! GET YOURSELF READY FOR A NEW ERA..!....

After 4 months of silence, we are finally back to share our dream with you..! First of all, we have to thank some special people (you know who you are), if Crysalys are still alive is also thanks to the great devotion and support we received from our precious fans. They have always been so close to us this summer, when everything seemed to be over. Music and passion are too strong in our souls to break up a dream for which we fought so hard in the last 3 years.....

In addition, we have to thank the great team who worked for us on new graphics, photos and layouts: A. Bracci (photos), E. Baldan (digital designer), C.Death (graphic and digital designer of the new layout) and G. Cuccu (photos) .....

But now, let’s start with some news..! We’d like to introduce you our new musicians! Fabio "Wolf" Amurri on keyboards, Alessandro "Mastro" Marconetti on guitar and Giuseppe "Peppz" Cardinali on bass guitar. ....

We chose them in September because of their positive attitude, which goes far beyond their undoubted musical talent. We're sure that they’ll fit perfectly to the new Crysalys' era and that you'll grow fond with them very soon!....

Thanks to new members and influences, the new Crysalys sound is moving closer to an Avant-Garde Metal style, with operatic elements contrasted by a powerful, modern and experimental metal sound.....

As you can see, there's also a new instrument in our line-up: the keyboard. Modern synths and emotional piano tunes will be a fundamental and innovative element and will help the band to experiment innovative sounds and evolve its original concept. ....

Currently, we're writing several new songs and we're making some pre-productions to choose which tracks will appear t on the first album. We'll record it in Spring 2010 and we'll give you some more details soon. We'll also come back on stage around March to show you the new members and our new tracks. More news will come soon, so STAY TUNED and thanks for all guys. We love you all.....

.. ..

Crysalys wishes everybody A MERRY XMAS AND A GREAT 2010..! ****...."

REVIEW: Sellisternium - Fury

Sellisternium is a band from Poland. They plays a sort of psychedelic/ambient rock dark music. This album "Fury" was released by Renaissance Records in 2008. Fury is an album mostly instrumental, the voice is an instrument more for filling the melodies and doesn't usually get the leading role.
We can find a lot keyboards passages with dark and psychedelic touches. They are sometimes poor. The guitar helps to create ambients. We can listen some good arrangements / solos.
Sellisternium is not the typical gothic metal band, they have their own indentity with their original music.

SCORE: 6/10

REVAMP: Charlotte (Delain), Marco (Nightwish) and Anneke (Agua de Annique) say Good Luck

Charlotte Wessels (Delain), Marco Hietala (Nightwish) and Anneke van Giersbergen (Agua de Annique) wish good luck to Floor and her band Revamp

REVIEW: Siegfried - Nibelung

'Nibelung' is the title of the new album by Siegfried. This band was founded in 1998. The metal sound of that periode (Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar, swedish metal,...), you can feel in this album. Dark melodies mixes with folk touches. You can listen three different voices. Two male ones: Clean and grunt and a female one by Sandra Schleret (Elis' singer too).

Nibelungs talks about the curse of the gold of the Nibelungen. You can interpret the lyrics with ambiguity, because they are mixed with personal reflections about destiny, love, hate and death.

In my opinion the best of this album are the riffs of guitars and the worst the complicated armonies of melodies whic they always use to develop his song. They usually start fine, but they complicated a lot the things in the course of the song and the result is not nice.

SCORE: 6/10

TARJA TURUNEN´s keyboardist featured on new THE ETERNAL album

Australian atmospheric/gothic/doom metallers THE ETERNAL have issued the following update:
"Talented Finnish keyboard player Maria Ilmoniemi who we met on our recent tour in the USA (she was in Tarja's [Turunen] band) is now at her studio in Helsinki, Finland, tracking keyboards for our new album.

"Maria has almost completed her masters degree in music and has an amazing range of digital and analogue keyboards, so we are very lucky to have her onboard.

"Due to distance, it's hard to make Maria a full-time member of THE ETERNAL, so she will be the invisible fourth member on this record and also the first female in what has very much been a boys club up until now.

"We are very excited to be working with her and we are sure the results will be fantastic."

THE ETERNAL will enter 301 Studios in Byron Bay, Australia on December 3 to begin recording the new album for an early 2010 release. More information will be made available soon.

REVIEW: Elis - Catharsis

Surprising ... this world describe in my opinion about the new album of the band Elis, called 'Catharsis'. When you are going to listen this album, forget your idea about the style of Elis. This one is very different. In 'Catharsis', the band change their own style. It's a very powerful album, never fall off. Sandra Schleret has surprised us with rock vocals, folk melodies, melodic ones,... We can listen male backing vocals in most of songs.

One of songs which I love it is Warrior's Tale, you can enjoy a very impressive duet between Sandra and Michelle Darkness (End of Green).

Nowadays, It's dificult find bands into female metal which play guitar solos, so it was a nice surprise for me listen some good solos guitars in 'Catharsis' album.

One of my favorites songs is: 'I come undone'. Sandra uses a very powerful voice. And the guitar arrangements are very right with a rock touch.

The negative aspect of this album is the cover.I think it doesn't fit with the music. That cover doesn't invite to buy the cd or listen it.

I'm very satisfied. Highly recomended!!

I'm not a fan of the band and I don't usually give high notes, but I must make an exception, Catharsis deserves it:

SCORE: 10/10

NIGHTWISH SINGER WITH THE RASMUS: BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE FROM "OCTOBER AND APRIL" VIDEO

Behind-the-scenes footage from the making of "October & April", the new video from Finland's THE RASMUS which features a guest appearance by NIGHTWISH frontwoman Anette Olzon, can be viewed below. The track was released as a single on November 11.
Olzon was scheduled to THE RASMUS on stage earlier tonight (Friday, November 20) at The Dome 52 in Graz, Austria to perform "October & April". The concert will be broadcast on Germany's RTL 2 station on November 27.

In a September 2008 interview with Italy's Musica Metal, THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen stated that the idea for the song came to him nine years ago when Tarja Turunen was still the lead singer of NIGHTWISH, but he only got around to recording the track during the sessions for last year's "Black Roses" CD. "I actually asked Tarja, but she said no!" Lauri revealed. "Then I called Anette, and she was like, 'Yeah, I would love to sing a song with you, I'm a big RASMUS fan, actually two years ago before I joined NIGHTWISH, I was singing THE RASMUS songs in karaoke bars!' so we went with her."

"October & April" was not included on "Black Roses" because the CD was a concept effort and the song didn't fit in with the overall idea for the album. Instead, the track will make its debut on THE RASMUS' "Best of 2001-2009", a compilation of all the hit songs from their four latest albums, including the million-selling "In The Shadows", most of the singles and a few rarities

Diabulus in Musica Review

Their name refers us to a famous album of Slayer but their music has nothing to do with it. Diabulus in Musica consists of four young musicians from Pamplona (Spain) that in 2006 decided to create a new symphonic metal project. Together with Niobeth represent the new wave of spanish gothic metal with operistic voice, that although it hasn't got much acceptance in this country -at least, for the moment-, for sure brings an interesting offer. Their demo "Secrets", advance of what will be their first album, shows much talent. A dark, modern, bombastic and symphonic sound wraps their songs up with an unique aura.
The first song that opens the demo begins with a majestic choir accompanied by powerful guitars that gives way to the soft voice of Zuberoa, opposite to the Adrián or Gorka growls. "St. Michael's Nightmare" gives off a lot of versatililty with its constant changes: powerfull guitars, soft piano parts... "Nocturnal Flowers" is much more approachable than its predecessor. It stands out for having a modern sound closer to the actual gothic metal bands. Keyboards gather power and the chorus is more accessible.

"Lies In Your Heart" has intense guitars but also mighty choirs, accompanied by the always warm voice of the singer. The last song , "Ishtar" begins with a sad and dark violin that little by little is followed by more instruments that gather intensity. The growls are more present. A good song to close that reminds to the After Forever's first works.
Diabulus In Musica's music has all the important ingredients of a symphonic metal band, in this sense they do not bring any innovation to the scene. They will be welcome by all the fans of this genre.
For their debut album, they count on many prestigious musicians as soprano Maite Itoiz (John Kelly & Maite Itoiz), tenor Ariel Hernández (singer of the Spanish National Choir) or Sergio Ramírez (violinist in the Spanish National Broadcast) among others. Besides, they have achieved
the support of Ad Sluijter (ex guitar player of the dutch band Epica), who has worked with Iñaki Llarena (DIM's producer so far) in the production of the album, and the invaluable expertise of Sascha Paeth in the mastering of the album.

REVIEW: Leaves Eyes - Njord

Njord is the new release for the band Leaves' Eyes. A magic album, with folk/viking influences. We can travel to ancients and lost worlds with the sweet melodies and voice of Liv Kristine.

Choruses and orchestra contrast with very powerful guitars and male vocals.

They include their own cover of the traditional english songs: "Scarborough Fair" and they got it! The new version is amazing.
In this album Liv proves that she is a great singer. She mixes neutral voice with a lyric voice with very complicated high notes.

We want to underline the ballad called "Morgenland" with their dark and sad melodies.

"Njord", "My destiny", "Elegy and Through our veins" (and their changes of scale) are our favorite songs. Only for these songs, it's worth listening the album. You can believe us.

SCORE: 9/10

EVANESCENCE Will Not Perform Any New Material

EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee has commented on her band's upcoming one-off appearance at the Maquinária festival in São Paulo, Brazil in November. The group is headlining one of the nights at the two-day event (Nov. 7-8), which will feature additional performances by FAITH NO MORE, JANE'S ADDICTION and DEFTONES, among others.

Stated Lee: "We've had a few cool opportunities to play one-offs over the past year or so, and I usually end up saying no because I've been so focused on the new material and I don't want to get sidetracked (organizing an EVANESCENCE show takes some pretty serious time and preparation) . BUT the writing has been going so well lately, and you Brazil fans are some of our best and craziest, we decided to just go for it!"

She added, "We won't be playing new material; it's going to be a collection of songs you already know (new stuff will come in due time).

"I'm really excited and a little nervous about the show - I've been my anonymous alter-ego for a long time! Mostly I can't wait to feel that feeling again - completely swallowed by the music."

Lee revealed in an online posting last month that she has been working on material for the follow-up to 2006's "The Open Door". She also indicated that she had "a little surprise" for the band's fans, but declined to give further details.

ANETTE OLZON Defends Her Decision To Work On Solo Album

NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has commented on her decision to work with Swedish producer/songwriter Anders Bagge on material for her upcoming solo album, which she plans to record during the band's downtime in early 2010. According to Anette, the as-yet-untitled CD "is, of course, just in the starting stage], but I will contribute doing the songs together with [Anders and other songwriters] and I will start that immediately. Anders is thinking on his side and me here... Then we meet and try out the ideas and we'll see what it will be like. But yeah, rocky it will be for sure. Not metal, but rock."

Regarding how her decision to work on a solo album will affect her status in NIGHTWISH, Olzon states, "You all know I love that band, and, of course, this is not a solo career, but an album. I can't sit and do nothing for maybe 1.5-2 years [while NIGHTWISH is preparing to record a new studio album]. None of the guys can either. Marco [Hietala, NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist] has TAROT and several other bands and projects, Emppu [Vuorinen; NIGHTWISH guitarist] has BROTHER FIRETRIBE and projects, Tuomas [Holopainen; NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter] [has] bands and projects and Jukka [Nevalainen; NIGHTWISH drummer] [has] his merch company. So, I need something too. And I don't want another band, 'cause I have NIGHTWISH. Then a solo will be just perfect. I can decide when and what I will tour or perform, all in the aspect of when NIGHTWISH will do something new. We don't know that. It's all in Tuomas' hands and he is the creator. We are the
instruments. "

She adds, "I hope people can stop thinking that the singer CAN'T do anything else but the instrumentalists can. I have the same right as my fellow band members to do anything on the side when NIGHTWISH is not playing or touring.

"I am, for sure, excited and I know I have my part to play with the songs and the album and I have already started thinking of songs and lyrics. It was a long time since I did songs, but I will soon be back in business."

BATTLELORE Extends Deal With NAPALM RECORDS

Finnish "fantasy metal" band BATTLELORE has extended its deal with Napalm Records.

Commented the group in a statement: "With our latest album, 'The Last Alliance', we fulfilled our previous recording deal and for a while we looked for other options to our next album. We got a lot of offers around the globe, but it was very clear that Napalm didn't want us to go and offered us a fine deal if we would continue with them. This new deal guarantees good conditions for our next album and touring."

NIGHTWISH Singer On Narrow-Mindedness In Music

NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has posted the following message on her official blog:

"When I sang in ALYSON AVENUE, which is a female-fronted band just like NIGHTWISH, but even more so, since it's only my voice there, we got so many 'real' hard rockers and metalheads who said female-fronted was shit and it should only be males singing rock etc... Even long before it's been like this, even bands like HEART had big problems to get some respect in their days.

"And how come so many people think it's OK to bring opera or classical singing into metal but wouldn't accept, for instance, Britney or Avril Lavigne to sing metal??

"What's the difference between having a singer from another genre like pop or jazz singing metal or a classical singer?

"And look at Chris Cornell and Timbaland... then that wouldn't be OK to do either?? Since Chris is a rocker and Timbaland 'pop?'

"Can you imagine what the opera/classical people say about those classical singers who sing in a 'metal band??' Oh my god... that can't be done...opera is sooooo special and metal is not music... I have myself heard these things being said in the music university and among classically trained people.

"And like when I started taking vocal lessons at 15 years of age... You MUST sing opera or classical!! Rock voice will kill your voice!!!

"Hmm...;=)

"I sang in a local Christmas show just a couple of years ago and I was the only one not opera or classically trained. And when we rehearsed, the conductor said after I had sang a little more rocky song: Well, THAT'S also one way to sing... and looked as if he had swallowed a really bad lemon... ;=)

"It's one thing that we all have different tastes in music... we should have that and that's just fine, but when it comes to 'rules' and such narrow-mindedness that we can see not only in metal but other genres too, I think it's sad for the music.

"Music should be joy, breaking borders, getting people closer, making people feel, embracing and talking to hearts and souls, and most of all, fill the world with different sounds.. like I have said before when I talked about differences in people, I don't want to hear just ONE repetitive sound every single day, I want different sounds floating around.

"Colourfullness in music too;=)

"And here [see YouTube clip below] is just an example of crossing borders: NIGHTWISH in a remix of DJ Orkidea...great, great mix and I would love to dance to it on the dance floor. ;=) Techno is perfect on the dance floor. ;=)"

OMEGA LITHIUM: signs with Drakkar Records.Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

The band will release its debut album, "Dreams In Formaline", on September 18 via Drakkar Records.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Infest [02:53]
02. Stigmata [03:48]
03. My Haunted Self [03:32]
04. Dreams In Formaline [03:20]
05. Andromeda [03:29]
06. Nebula [03:58]

10. Angel's Holocaust [03:20]
11. Point Blank [03:57]
12. Stigmata (Videoclip) [03:48]

Check out the cover artwork below:

Drakkar label manager Marius Kopec previously stated about the company's decision to sign OMEGA LITHIUM, "Of course, classic artist development has become increasingly difficult. On the other hand, only by supporting new bands does a label stand a chance of hitting the jackpot. To us, it's as important as ever that our bands bring along a solid mix of quality and originality. OMEGA LITHIUM, with their amazing singer Mya Mortensen, is without any doubt what we call a 'unique act,' so we are very convinced that it is possible to establish this band in the gothic scene!"

OMEGA LITHIUM's sound is described in the band's official bio as "the vision of a reformed society's way of thinking. The aggression of the distorted guitars, the simplicity of the electro beats, wrapped in a haunting atmosphere, and a rebellious point of view through it. Influenced by industrial, metal, gothic and rock, emerges a distinct sound that creates the passage through the ruined world of inner destruction."

A video for the song "Stigmata" can be viewed below.

Keyboardist Jeffrey Revet of the Netherlands-based gothic/progressive metal band STREAM OF PASSION - which is fronted by Mexican female vocalist Marcela Bovio (AYREON) - has issued the following update:

"About two weeks ago, on June 11, I passed my final exam for the study Music Technology at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede. For me, the study meant four years of working on composition, arranging, studio engineering and playing keyboards as well. I wanted my final exam to be a reflection of all that and to give an overview of the work I do at the moment. Of course, STREAM OF PASSION forms a big part of that, so I thought it would be really cool to do a little live performance of one of the new STREAM OF PASSION songs. With the help of Marcela and special guest Lotte van Velthoven, we've played 'All I Know' in a special setting with just vocals, piano and cello. For those who missed it, we made a little video of it, so you can check it out [below]."

ANETTE OLZON talks about her singing technique

NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon recently wrote a blog entry on her official web site where whe talked about singing technique. She said, "It's hard to go in to exactly what I do when I sing since some things are 'by nature' and just come naturally but, of course, a lot of things are what I have learned earlier in vocal lessons and also during my career as the singer in NIGHTWISH where my voice is needed to be able to sing many high-pitched songs for 1.5 hours many nights a week.

"First of all, what I use most when I sing is a technique called 'belting.' For you who don't know what kinda vocal sound types normally are talked about, there are different sounds and techniques to use when singing. This technique is a way to come very high up by pushing the vocal cords together, slamming them against each other, so that no air at all can leak through. If any air leaks through, it can make the voice soar and aching. I do this technique also by thinking that I lift my upper lift upwards, kinda showing my teeth and a good sound to practise for it is to imitate an evil witch. You know the evil laughter. Also imitating a car like: öhrn, öhrn, öhrn... as a car accelerating forward. These things make me lift the lip and close the cords. Of course there are so many more things to do to make this technique perfect but that's an easier way to explain what I do."
