CONSTRAINT! THE INTERVIEW!
IS BEATRICE
BINI!
By Darkzen
Many thanks friends! For staying with us,
this week I leave this interview with an incredible vocalist! Very talented,
which tells us the beginning of his Legend, Constraint band! from Italy
Greetings! Friends
Hi! Thank you for this
interview.
¿How the band was formed?
The band was formed in 2011 by
Alessio and Simone as a rock/metal band. When I joined it, I gave it a
symphonic metal touch with to my opera vocal style.
¿What is the meaning behind the name of the band?
The meaning I give to
‘Constraint’in this context is something philosophical: it is the limit of
being human, something we can’t overcome (although we wish to) because of our intrinsic
nature. I would like to expand my consciousness, to go beyond these boundaries,
but the fact is that we are ‘in chains’, we are not free to go beyond, become
One with Nature, become divine, become immortal.
¿Who are the members of the band?
Alessio (the guitarist), Simone
(the keyboard player), Federico (the bass player), Alessandro (the drummer) and
me, the singer.
Beatrice
¿How was to your musical and vocal training?
First of all, from the age of 11
until 13, I used to play the french horn. I love its sound so much, especially
when used in movie scores. It is so epic and towering.
At the age of 14, I took my
first singing lesson. I was very, very shy and I was afraid to sing in front of
people (including my family). But I thought I had the talent to do it, even
though I didn’t want to tell anyone. I had low self-esteem. At that age, I
wanted to sing pop/rock, but my teacher told me that I had a suitable voice for
musicals and for Opera, not for pop music. Then, thanks to her, I discovered
symphonic metal and I finally found my way! I fell in love with this kind of
music and I started singing covers of Nightwish, Epica and Evanescence. My
voice was really suitable for that genre. I felt confortable in it, both for
the music and the themes of the lyrics. I started also to buy gothic clothing
and I joined Constraint. My teacher suggested me to sign up in Conservatorium
(a classical music school), and at the age of 16, I began my studies there. I
am very satisfied of my choice. My current teacher is fantastic! I love the way
she teaches and thinks. I am also studying music theory, harmony, music
history, piano and choral singing. At the age of 18 I joined another band: the
awesome Chocobo Band, check it out!
What are your groups or singers who have influenced
you? In and outside of Metal.
Well, my favourite singer is
Floor Jansen. I like her so much because her voice is really powerful and she
can convey any kind of emotion, she can also move me. Inspiring bands for me
are: The 3rd and the Mortal, Draconian,
Nightwish, Epica, Evanescence, etc... outside of Metal, I like chamber music, Opera
(my favourite aria is ‘The Queen of the Night’), Jazz and progressive rock. One
of my favourite band is Opeth, but the singer is male, so I can’t properly say
that it influenced my vocal style.
¿What do you do offstage, any hobbies? Do
you have another job?
I am studying Biotechnology at
the University. I hope that these studies will lead me to become a researcher.
My hobbies are Bellydancing and Yoga. I also love reading (philosophy books,
popular science, essays, but also novels, sometimes). I love the Arts and going
to exhibitions and museums. I speak english, german and spanish and I try to practice
these languages sometimes.
¿What is the essence of Constraint,
Symphonic / Gothic / Alternative Metal / Rock, who want to share?
Our essence is something
different from traditional Symphonic metal, maybe something more direct but
genuine. Our band is our own essence. With my music, I want to touch the deeper
side of the human soul. I would like the audience to identify itself in my lyrics,
I want to be able to share my deepest feelings: my pain, my hope, my dispair,
my love for Nature.
¿What can you tell us, about your Demo,
"Illusion for a Dream"?
We wanted to record some of our
songs to experience studio recording and to have something for people to listen
to who were curious about us. We recorded it at Mike Pelillo’s studio and we
had a very good experience.
¿Do you write the songs?
I only write the lyrics and the
vocal line. The main composer is Simone, the keyboard player.
¿How will the debut album be? Will the
style be the same as the Demo’s or will it be different?
The style will be completely
different. We changed our line-up (our drummer) after our demo; Alessandro has
a very different technique compared to the former drummer. We also grew up a
lot (both musically and as people): the demo was recorded when we were 16 (I
was about to enter in the Conservatorium), now we are 19.
¿When will the EP or album debut?
I hope we can start recording it
in February of March. It will take a few months.
¿Anything else you want to share?
I would like to announce that we
are going to play in Bologna (Italy) on March 7th and in Turin (Italy) on April
25th. We can’t wait to hit the stage again!
Thank you very much for your time! The
last words are all yours for our readers!
Thanks a lot. Bye, we can’t wait
to release our EP! Follow us on our FB page!
